Surprise!!
During my brother and his family's holiday, my father takes care of their two young rabbits. That would last about 5 weeks and for my father was that a bit of an effort. When they were at my father's house for just a few days, he found out that one of the rabbits wasn't a female! My brother bought the rabbits as 2 females and they sat together in a hutch!! My father called my brother, but he wouldn't believe it. "Shouldn't the vet look first, dad?" he asked distrustful. I arranged another hutch through the internet and I examined the rabbits too. Heavens, I've never seen a more heavely-armed male-rabbit!:-) No doubt about his sex! From that moment I helped my father with taking care of the rabbits, cleaning the hutches every week (my father has healthproblems) and together we kept a close eye on them. A few days ago, my father saw the female rabbit building a nest and I already had felt her teats had grown. Were we too late with discovering the male rabbit? This morning my father opened the hutch to feed her and he saw there were baby rabbits born! Ofcourse we went for a visit immediately and I checkes how many baby's she got and if they were alive. There are 5 of them!! Four are white, like the mother and 1 is bluegray, like the father. The baby's were very lively and screamed for milk. So great to watch! Hopefully it 'll go well and the mother will take care of her baby's. After all, she only 6 months old herself. My brother was supposed to collect the rabbits in a week, but because of this nice surprise the mother and her baby's have to stay a few weeks longer! And my father? He likes it a lot!
